The second session turns to the systems and processes that make inclusive practice reliable at scale. Distinguishing the whole system from the individual processes within it, we look at how you secure accurate identification of need, keep SEND registers meaningful and current, and analyse patterns of need to inform provision planning at both school and group level. We consider how management information systems and data dashboards can give you a clear, shared picture, and how a consistent approach to screening and diagnostic assessment supports early, accurate identification across the four broad areas of need.

Drawing on the MAT SEND Review Guide and the experience of leading across many sites and local authorities, we also explore how to deliver high-quality professional development at scale, so that knowledge of learners' needs reaches every teacher and shapes day-to-day teaching. Expect practical models you can adapt, from trained-trainer and champion approaches to shared services and technology-enabled delivery.

Rachel Hargreaves

Rachel is the CEO of Ascent Academies' Trust, a six-school specialist MAT in the North East and North Yorkshire.  In her twenty-eight years in education, Rachel has worked across the sector in special schools, a mainstream secondary school with resourced SEN provision and all age mainstream and specialist Multi Academy Trusts. Rachel has been a headteacher/executive headteacher for 15 years and took up the post of CEO in January 2025.
Rachel has been Nort East regional lead for Whole School SEND since 2019.

Rachel has a National Professional Qualification in Headship and Executive Headship, an MSC in Leadership and Organisational Change and is an accredited Coach. Rachel is committed to improving the quality of provision for all children and young people with Special education needs and disabilities and developing the professional practice of colleagues in all settings.
