This series of three webinars supports schools in developing and evaluating how they work with families to maximise engagement and outcomes. The series focuses on using evidence to inform the graduated approach to SEND support, in order to help schools and settings achieve the best possible outcomes for children young people and with SEND.

This series features speakers from Special Needs Jungle, the Autism Education Trust and the National Network of Parent Carer Forums. The series is suitable for practitioners across all phases of education, from both mainstream and specialist settings.

Part 1: Developing positive relationships with families

  • Exploring tools and approaches that schools can use to improve relationships with families, including identifying evidence-based approaches that impact positive relationships and exploring strategies to help school leaders implement new approaches.

Part 2: Making SEND progress meetings meaningful for all

  • Exploring how to have open and honest conversations about learners' needs, along with a discussion of the tools to help make evidencing progress manageable and effective for all involved. The session also looks at how to improve pupil and parent involvement in progress meetings and support families understanding of the process.

Part 3: Preparing young people for transition: a co-ordinated approach

  • The final session explores how schools can work with families to prepare young people for transition, including supporting families to understand the different phases of transition and sharing strategies that can reduce anxiety for students and families.
