Specialist Spotlight: Memory for Learning (Cross-phase)

This session is designed for colleagues working in primary, secondary and further education who want to deepen their understanding of memory and its impact on learning.
During the session, we will explore:
- The importance of working memory in learning.
- Key models of memory and what they tell us about how learners process, store and retrieve information.
- How to identify learners who may be experiencing working memory difficulties.
- Practical, evidence-informed strategies to support learners with memory difficulties.
- Approaches that help learners retain and retrieve knowledge more effectively.
There will also be opportunities for discussion and professional dialogue, enabling participants to share experiences, exchange ideas and learn from effective practice across different educational settings. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of memory and a range of practical strategies that can be used to support learners and improve learning outcomes.

Meet your trainer
Dr Josselyn Hellriegel
Dr Josselyn Hellriegel is Clinical Psychologist with a specialist interest and experience in paediatric neuropsychology and neurodevelopmental disorders. She has enjoyed working with children, young people and their families helping them focus on a child’s/young person’s unique strengths and address potential difficulties. She has worked in a range of clinical settings, primarily within the NHS, over the past 15 years. Currently, she is working in a social and neuropaediatric setting abroad.
