Join us for a FREE discussion exploring 'understanding executive functioning’ in secondary/FE settings.
Featuring Zoe Brown: After graduating from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, Zoe spent time working as a teaching assistant in a busy secondary school.
The discussion will be hosted by Whole School SEND’s National Delivery Coordinator, Caroline Sutton-Reid, and everyone will be encouraged to join in, ask questions and share experiences. As such, content will be responsive but may cover some or all of the following themes:
- Know what executive function is and why executive function skills are important.
- Identify when executive function skills are lacking and the difficulties this may cause for learners.
- Strategies and approaches that support the improvement of executive function skills.
The discussion builds on our online SEND CPD units which take less than one hour to complete. While everyone is welcome to take part in the session, delegates who have completed the corresponding unit content in preparation are likely to find the sessions particularly helpful.
Due to the interactive nature of these sessions, recordings will not be made available after the event.

Meet your trainer
Dr Zoe Brown, Educational Psychologist
After graduating from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, I spent time working as a teaching assistant in a busy secondary school. Upon realising I wanted to undertake further study and expand on my use of psychology in education, I returned to the University of Nottingham to study the Doctorate in Applied Educational Psychology. Since qualifying in 2018, I have worked at Nottinghamshire Educational Psychology Service as a main-grade educational psychologist and, more recently, as the senior educational psychologist for training and projects. I am also the Nottinghamshire County Council lead for the NottAlone project which aims to bring together support and signposting to local mental health support services in the area.
I am passionate about organisational psychology and I enjoy working with schools to make changes which support the school community as a whole. I am also interested in Narrative psychology, supporting children in care/ previously in care and equity & inclusion.
