Join Whole School SEND and the South West Regional Team for a thought-provoking session based on evidence and experience which challenges the understanding of SEND and Disadvantage in schools.

In this webinar, guest speaker Bill Jerman, an experienced National Leader of Education and leader of a Teaching School Alliance, will explore the question:

Is there a real understanding of the difference in SEND and Disadvantage in schools?

Bill will be introducing a model to reflect and evaluate the underpinning ethos, vision and attitudes in schools towards disadvantaged learners and the effectiveness of the systems and strategies that are in place. He will explore and challenge the relationship between DL and SEND pupils and the implications for schools.

Bill Jerman

Bill was a Primary Headteacher and Executive Headteacher for 28 years in West London. During his headship he led initiatives and programmes for NQTs and Leaders within the LA, followed by a part-time secondment to lead similar work with the NCTL and DfE across London.

As an NLE and leader of a Teaching School Alliance, Bill was involved in school-to-school support, coaching and mentoring, school improvement work, effective use of the pupil premium grant and developing the capacity and quality of school leaders. He moved to the South West in 2015 and now works as an Independent Education Consultant, a School Improvement Partner, Pupil Premium Reviewer and inspector for Ofsted. Bill continues to develop and run leadership, governance and CPD programmes at all levels, write and facilitate on NPQ programmes and works collaboratively with groups of schools who are looking to develop effective partnerships.

A significant part of his work is now to support and challenge schools to review, re-evaluate and improve their strategies and systems for disadvantaged learners. Most recently, he has been writing and delivering Pupil Premium Reviewer training for the SWTSC.
