
Leadership of SEND: Building a Culture of Collective Responsibility

This series of three linked webinars will start with an understanding of how to use data strategically to lead SEND provision and foster a collective responsibility for SEND within your setting. The first session will be presented by WSS National SEND Leader, Malcolm Reeve.
We will explore effective leadership strategies for curriculum and middle leaders. There will also be opportunities to reflect on the recent inspection landscape; reviewing case studies of settings who have experienced an Ofsted visit within the Autumn term.
Our sessions are split across Autumn and Spring term and to allow participants to reflect on and develop their practice and reflect on data gathered in the first term.
Sessions are suitable for all practitioners in leadership roles, across all phases of mainstream and specialist settings.
Part 1: Tuesday 16th November 2021, 14:00-15:30
Malcolm Reeve, National SEND Leader, will present on the key pillars of SEND Leadership; SEND Code of Practice and the effective use of SEND data by middle/phase leaders.
Part 2: Thursday 2nd December 2021, 14:00-15:30
During this session we will present case studies from SENDCO colleagues who have had recent Ofsted inspections (Autumn Term) and will reflect on key questions around collective responsibility for SEND. Hear from:

- Hayley Mannion, Assistant Head and SENDCO at St Therese Of Lisieux Catholic Primary School, Stockton-on-Tees

Part 3: Tuesday 11th January 2022, 14:00-15:30
This session will focus on the following objectives:
- Reflecting on Leadership of SEND from a curriculum/phase lead perspective
- Sharing of practical strategies for developing collective responsibility for SEND (Reading/Literacy focus)
- Review of autumn term inspection data
The session will feature a range of case studies from curriculum/phase leaders on effective SEND Leadership and the impact on provision. Case studies will be provided by:
- Emily Fraser, English and Phonics Curriculum Lead at West Boldon Primary School

Malcolm Reeve
Malcolm has worked in the field of SEND for 30 years and in that time has worked in adult provision, mainstream schools, and special schools. He has worked in with children throughout the age range and with learning difficulties ranging from moderate to profound. Malcolm has been a Headteacher of three schools and one federation. He is a National Leader of Education, a Member of the National SEND Forum, and Patron of the Centre Algarve holiday centre for people with special needs.

Emily Fraser
Emily Fraser is the Literacy and Phonics Lead and Reception Class Teacher at West Boldon Primary School, a mainstream primary in South Tyneside with a diverse catchment area.

Gary Aubin
Gary joined the EEF on secondment in September 2021. In his Content Specialist role, he aims to support schools to be evidence-informed in their practice for students with SEND. Alongside this, he leads on SEND provision for a Multi Academy Trust in London and Hertfordshire. He is a secondary Drama teacher and former SENDCO and Head of Year.
Gary authors the SENDMatters.co.uk blog and has recently written The Lone SENDCO, a handbook for SENDCOs.
