The Shaw Education Trust are keen to ensure that their SEND support programme, ‘SENDing Students Soaring’ will be fully embedded in the SET schools in the future.

The previous year’s work has concentrated upon working with SENCOs:  this PD group will focus attention upon Headteachers to help them to understand the importance of setting an inclusive ethos supported by inclusive policies and processes. Tanya Rowley from the Central Team will co-lead the sessions with Alison Parr, WSS Lead for West Midlands.

The content of the sessions will ensure Headteachers:

1. Have a deeper understanding of their statutory responsibilities under the Children& Families Act, SEND Code of Practice and (the one that catches people out in appeals) Equality Act
2. Develop a deeper understanding of Inclusion and its impact on Belonging
3. Foster High Quality INCLUSIVE teaching in their schools
4. Undertake monitoring and evaluation activities through a SEND / Inclusion lens – embedding Tanya’s FLMA
5. Develop an impactful SEND sprint for the Autumn term that will ensure that SEND leadership is distributed across the school

• Session 1 - Heads Together: 2nd October 10am-12pm (venue details to be shared via email)

Covering statutory, inclusion + belonging & Sprint development

• Session 2 - Heads Together: 13th November 10am-12pm (venue details to be shared via email)

T&L, Evaluation & monitoring

• Session 3 - Heads Together: 8th January 2026 10am-12pm (venue details to be shared via email)
