- 22 Jan 2024 (16:00 - 17:00)
Join us for a FREE discussion exploring approaches to promoting mental wellbeing in secondary / FE settings.
Featuring: Dr Jawad Shah a Deputy Principal Educational Psychologist who has worked in a variety of local authority services in the Northwest. He also works as a National Officer for the Association of Educational Psychologists, a union and professional body. Jawad does some associate lecturing at the University of Manchester and University of Sheffield, supporting the training of educational psychologists. Jawad has particular interests in the role of educationalists and psychologists in advocating for social justice principles and values. He also has interests in the social and emotional development of children and young people and impact of systems around them.
The discussion will be hosted by Whole School SEND’s regional lead, Tina Harvey, and everyone will be encouraged to join in, ask questions and share experiences. As such, content will be responsive but may cover some or all of the following themes:
- Your role in promoting a setting-wide approach to mental health and wellbeing.
- Why settings should promote the social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of children and young people, (including people with a neurodiverse condition).
- Risk factors which, acting singly or in combination, can adversely affect learners' mental health.
- Protective factors that can protect against poor mental health.
The discussion builds on our 20 minute online SEND CPD units. While everyone is welcome to take part in the session, delegates who have completed the corresponding unit content in preparation are likely to find the sessions particularly helpful.
Due to the interactive nature of these sessions, recordings will not be made available after the event.
