Free Oxford University webinar on EdTech and the Inclusive Classroom
The session titled ‘EdTech and the Inclusive Classroom’ draws on research from the “Towards equity-focused approaches to EdTech”, a socio-technical approach project at the University of Oxford. Using ethnographic research carried out in secondary schools across England, the project examines the relationship between educational technology and equity, focusing on how digital tools are experienced by different groups of learners. The project team says its findings suggest that schools and technology providers need a better understanding of classroom realities, as well as greater transparency around the design, motivations and educational approaches behind EdTech systems.
During the webinar, researchers will share examples of both digitally inclusive practice and digital exclusion. Topics will include classroom attention and distraction, the relationship between digital and traditional literacy, tensions between technology use and formal assessment, and the implications of generative AI for pupils with SEND. The webinar will conclude with a discussion on the future of equity and technology in schools and an invitation for attendees to contribute to the project's ongoing research.
The webinar will take place on 12 November 2026 4-5pm and is aimed at SENCos and teachers interested in supporting pupils with SEND and those learning English as an additional language (EAL).
